Gupt Navratri is a lesser-known but spiritually significant festival observed twice a year—once during Magha (January–February) and again in Ashadha (June–July). Unlike the widely celebrated Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratris, Gupt Navratri is primarily observed by sadhaks, tantriks, and spiritual seekers who engage in intense sadhana to attain siddhis and divine blessings of Goddess Durga and her various forms.
The term “Gupt” means “secret”, and the practices during this Navratri are usually done in solitude and silence, often involving tantric rituals, mantras, homas, and yajnas. Each of the nine days is dedicated to a different form of Maa Shakti, and devotees perform special pujas, chantings, and fasts to awaken inner powers and destroy negative energies.
Gupt Navratri is believed to be a powerful time to remove obstacles, achieve goals, and strengthen spiritual discipline. It holds great importance in Aghori, Kaula, and Tantra traditions, and is also considered ideal for initiating new spiritual practices. Though it’s not widely celebrated publicly, its energy is considered equally potent—if not more—than the regular Navratris for those on a deeper spiritual path. Temples may not host large-scale events, making this Navratri a more internal and transformative experience.
